Prostitution is essentially...

Published 19 January 2014

Prostitution most often refers to the provision of sexual services for a certain monetary reward. Most often, a woman acts as a “seller” of such services, and a man acts as a “buyer”. However, relationships between two men are also common. Less common is a type of prostitution in which a man provides sexual services to a woman for a fee. Part of the sex industry also includes strippers, porn actors and phone sex workers.

History of Prostitution

Prostitution has been around as long as humanity itself. But in different periods of history and in different societies it was treated differently.

For example, hetaeras were very valued in Ancient Greece. These women not only had vast sexual experience, but were also capable of intellectual communication. In Europe of the Middle Ages, the attitude towards prostitution was quite tolerant, but in England of the Victorian era it was a scandalous, but at the same time a necessary component that provided a man with sexual, and often social, freedom.

In modern society, the Internet has imposed imprint on the oldest of professions. Modern prostitutes in Novosibirsk communicate with clients by e-mail, they do not need pimps and brothels, which significantly increases their earnings.

Prostitutes and clients

Clients of prostitutes, as a rule, are white men middle-aged. Usually these are representatives of the middle class. According to the survey, about 93% of men meet with a prostitute at least once a month.

There are several reasons why a woman becomes a prostitute. The main one is economic, that is, the opportunity to earn money. Some are forced into prostitution through deception or violence. There are also those who do this out of vocation.

Some of the prostitutes combine prostitution with other, completely legal, types of income. But the vast majority of uneducated prostitutes who do not have a specialty live solely on the money they earn from paid sex.

The main problems of prostitutes include legislative ones, as well as fear of possible illness or damage to the body. In this sense, it is much safer to provide sexual services via the Internet or by telephone. Although such prostitutes earn good money, this is only a small part of their real earnings. The main share is appropriated by the owners of the business.
